Prayer & Fasting Day 20
Read John 20.
We are almost through our fast. I am sure that at this point much of it has become easier, at least I hope so. As we approach today's scripture, I want you to use your mind's eye to see the disciples after they have placed the formal funeral wrapped body of their King, Teacher, Friend, into a tomb.
A sleepless tear-filled night followed by an almost speechless day left their minds racing and reaching for answers. Their hearts were broken, and moment by moment, they had to make the choice to believe in the many words of the deceased teacher. Another sleepless night, followed by another quiet day.
Then, on the third day, it happened! He reveals himself to Mary at the tomb, then to the disciples who were gathered at night. Jesus had to show them his hands and side to prove it was really him. The reality of the impossible is a hard thing to grasp.
Then we have these beautiful words from Christ. Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see me and yet believed” (v. 29). You who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God may have life in Jesus' name.
Praise God for His resurrection today. Unlike any other god of history, our God defeated death and gave us purpose, a calling, and a vision of a future Kingdom of peace with the Prince of Peace!
