Prayer & Fasting Day 18
Read John 18.
As we step into the last few days/chapters, there is a thread that holds the tapestry of these words together. As we feel the weight of these chapters, we must hold tightly to that thread, and as we do, God’s character will be revealed in a fresh and beautiful way.
Jesus was arrested under false testimony, beaten, put on four trials in this chapter. Jesus had lived in such a way that all he simply stated was, “If I have spoken wrongly, testify to the wrong...” (v. 23).
Jesus could have used a simple explanation or driven down deeper on the truth of his life. He could have allowed his disciples to defend him, or called down legions of angels to save him. Yet his love for you bade him to remain silent. You see, Jesus allowed the false allegations to be stated. He allowed others to bare false witness. He allowed the soldiers to beat, mock, and accuse him. Jesus did all of this through the love of God for His people.
