Prayer & Fasting Day 19

Read John 19.

Jesus answered, “You would have no authority over me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason, he who delivered me to you has the greater sin” (v. 11). While on trial, Jesus flexed a little bit here. He reminds us that it is God who gives authority to whom He wills (Romans 13:1-7), and it is only through God’s perfect will that anything happens.

After this, Pilate had Jesus beaten and eventually handed him over to be crucified. Think about what happened next. Jesus loved us so much he was scourged by whips with rocks and sharp bones, revealing his ribs, and tearing his flesh to the brink of death. Jesus loves us so much he allowed a crown of 3-inch thorns placed on his head then beaten down by a rod. Jesus loves us so much he allowed the soldiers to raise him up among common criminals, stretching out his arms and nailing him to a cross causing severe pain and asphyxiation of the lungs. No one could ever say that you are not loved.

As you read these words, you must know that in this moment Jesus knew your name. Upon the cross, the Savior of the world chose to be the Way, the Truth, and the Light of the world. No matter what you face today, your value has been measured, and Christ chose that day to die for you.

In love for us, Jesus said, “It is finished!” And He bowed his head and gave up His spirit. Christ died for us. Praise him today throughout your day for the joy of a future in paradise because of his loving sacrifice.
